The National Weather Service (NWS) utilizes WEA to push extreme weather warnings over the system. Tornado warnings, flash flood warnings and several other high-end warnings go direct to wireless users in an affected county automatically if their device is compatible. Severe weather alerts and warnings are sent out by the National Weather Service but may also be sent by third-party providers. View the types of messages sent by the NWS.
Hennepin County Emergency Management and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office may also work in partnership with local governments to send WEA messages when requested. However, Amber Alerts are only issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
